Carousel Theatre for Young People is offering a new adaptation of The Paper Bag Princess at the Waterfront Theatre from April 22 to May 10.
Based on the 1980 book by Robert Munsch, Alissa Watson’s production follows Elizabeth and her three older sisters, who are in training to be well-rounded princesses by practising the “Princess-iples”: being positively placid, positively patient, positively poised, positively precious, and positively perfect. Her father, the King, has plans for her to become Queen one day—but everything changes when the Dragon arrives.
In spite of the frequent dragon drills conducted by Sir Puffy, Elizabeth’s suitor Prince Ronald is captured by the Dragon and taken away, leaving her castle—and clothing—in smoking ruins. It’s up to Elizabeth to track the Dragon down and rescue Ronald, learning important lessons about being a princess along the way.
Kathleen Duborg is directing The Paper Bag Princess, which is recommended for ages three and up. Tickets are available through Carousel Theatre.
