Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents Saint-Saëns’ The Egyptian at the Orpheum on February 14 and 15 at 8 pm, as part of the Masterworks Gold series.
Set sail on the Nile with Piano Concerto No. 5, “The Egyptian”, the final piano concerto by French composer Saint-Saëns. Spanish soloist Javier Perianes, who has been described as “an exquisite musician” by the Times with an ability to make “the piano glitter with alert polished brilliance” (Sydney Morning Herald), will perform the work.
The lineup for this concert features two more works by French artists: Franck’s Symphony in D minor, and contemporary composer Camille Pepin’s powerful Laniakea, a work brimming with celestial colours. Parisian musician Chloé van Soeterstède, an internationally praised artist and the founder of London-based chamber orchestra Arch Sinfonia, will make her VSO debut as conductor of the program.
Tickets to Saint-Saëns’ The Egyptian and more details are available through the VSO.
