The West Vancouver Memorial Library has just announced Canadian avant-garde clarinetist Liam Hockley as its 2025 Sound Artist in Residence. For the second year running this inventive residency fosters a vibrant community centred around music, thanks to a generous bequest from the estate of Robert Leslie Welsh through the Library Foundation.

Hockley holds a doctorate of musical arts from the University of British Columbia, where his dissertation explored performer agency in complexist music. As Sound Artist in Residence, he will be working on a new improvisation project using clarinet, bass clarinet, and custom-built live electronic processing, as well as offering free workshops and events for the community.

Patrons can Meet the Sound Artist in Residence on September 11 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Then on September 15 and 17, they are invited to open their ears to the music of nature on a guided outdoor Soundwalk.

Learn more about Hockley’s residency through the West Vancouver Memorial Library.
