Globally acclaimed Canadian trumpeter and composer Kenny Wheeler has set precedents in the jazz world with his unabashedly lyrical, harmonically adventurous music.
BlueShore at CapU pays tribute to Wheeler’s profound impact with a performance of his most revered works, February 27 at 7:30 pm. The evening stars trumpeter Brad Turner and vocalist-pianist Jennifer Scott accompanied by A Band, CapU’s large jazz ensemble.
Turner, a jazz trumpeter, pianist, drummer, and composer, is known for his brilliant technique and emotive performances. He has released 10 solo albums, plus another six with multiple Juno Award–winning group Metalwood. The equally talented Scott has released four acclaimed albums. The two Vancouver-based musicians bring their remarkable artistry to Wheeler’s deeply personal compositions, creating a fitting tribute to this jazz titan.
This concert is a rare opportunity to experience the genius of Wheeler through the lens of two of Canada’s finest jazz musicians, backed by a big band comprised of exciting, fresh talents.
