Premieres and partnerships with local arts organizations as Elektra Women's Choir unveils 2023-24 season

VANCOUVER’S Elektra Women’s Choir has unveiled a 2023-24 season that includes premieres and several collaborations with other local arts organizations.
On September 23, members of choir take part in Still Moon Arts Society’s Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival, reprising Snewíyalh tl’a Stakw (Teachings of the Water) by composer T. Patrick Carrabré and Squamish words contributed by Rebecca Duncan.
Elektra will bring the same work to the multidisciplinary finale on September 29 in a Still Moon Arts initiative called Consciousness of Streams, drawing attention to the hundreds of streams under the urban landscape of Vancouver,.
The holiday season marks the return of Elektra’s traditional Chez Nous: Christmas with Elektra, with performances in both South Surrey and Vancouver (December 2 and 3, respectively), and spanning music from the 13th century to the present.
In March 2024, At the Spring Dawn celebrates of International Women’s Day, featuring repertoire by Canadian composers Sherryl Sewepagaham, Shireen Abu Khader, Katerina Gimon, Gerda Blok-Wilson, Marie-Claire Saindon, Joan Szymko, and Ukrainian composer Iryna Alexsiychuk’s The Song, co-commissioned by Elektra and several international women’s choirs.
Elektra joins the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for Holst’s epic The Planets on April 12 at the Orpheum Theatre, with a repeat performance April 13 at Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver.
On April 19, the Vancouver Chamber Choir and its artistic director Kari Turunen will welcome Elektra, EnChor Choir, the BC Girls Choir, and the Finnish choir Akademiska Sångföreningen at St. Andrew’s-Wesley Church.
On April 26 and 27 , Elektra is back with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Otto Tausk, to give the world premiere performance of Earth, Beloved by BC-based Nicholas Ryan Kelly.
