The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts is hosting Lache Cercel and his ensemble Roma Jazz for a magical concert on April 10 at 7:30 pm.

Originally from Bucharest, Romania, Cercel developed a love of jazz through a smuggled Stéphane Grappelli tape. Today, this Burnaby resident’s music is a merging of his roots and Eastern influences with western musicology.

Cercel combines a strong sense of Roma (Gypsy) tradition with klezmer, Middle Eastern, and European sounds, all held together with jazz improvisation. He calls this dynamic and beguiling fusion “Roma Swing”.

Roma Jazz, Cercel’s ensemble, features a selection of highly regarded artists that enhance and uplift his multiculturally influenced sound. By creating and sharing his music, the jazz virtuoso is committed to breaking down cultural barriers and sending a message that it is important to celebrate our similarities and grow from our differences.

Tickets to the concert and more details are available here.
