The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts presents a screening of Slash/Back, a coming-of-age sci-fi film, on March 27 at 7:30 pm.

Nestled in the majestic mountains of Baffin Island in the Arctic Ocean, the town of Pangnirtung, Nunavut wakes up to a typical summer day: no school, no cool boys (except one), and 24-hour sunlight. But for Maika and her ragtag friends, a usual summer is suddenly not in the cards when they discover an alien invasion threatening their hometown.

These teenagers have been underestimated their whole lives—but using makeshift weapons and their horror-movie knowledge, they show the aliens not to mess with the girls from Pang.

Written by Iqaluit-raised Nyla Innuksuk and Ryan Cavan, and directed by Innuksuk, Slash/Back stars Melissa Hood, Tasiana Shirley, and Alexis Wolfe. The film’s upcoming Shadbolt Centre presentation is curated by Rylan Friday, an award-winning director, writer, and producer from Cote First Nation in Saskatchewan. Friday will host an audience talkback after the screening.

Tickets are $15 and available here.
