Innovative blues artist Corey Harris performs at BlueShore at CapU, June 26

American singer-guitarist infuses the genre with reggae, soul. and West African influences

Corey Harris, a powerful singer and accomplished guitarist, has carved out his own niche in blues. When the American musician visits BlueShore at CapU on June 26 at 7:30 pm, he will perform traditional songs alongside his own imaginative new compositions with influences that span reggae, soul, rock, and West African music.

Harris began his career as a travelling street singer in the southern United States. In his early 20s he spent a year in Cameroon, West Africa, and has since performed with B.B. King, Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, R.L. Burnside, Ali Farka Touré, Dave Matthews Band, Tracy Chapman, and more.

Harris starred in Martin Scorcese’s 2003 film Feel Like Going Home, and was awarded the MacArthur Foundation’s “genius award” in 2007.

His upcoming show is part of the eight-concert North Shore Jazz series presented with the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. Tickets are available at BlueShore at CapU.
