Jazz music lovers are in for a real treat: legendary trumpeter Jon Faddis takes the stage at Capilano University Centre for the Performing Arts (formerly BlueShore at CapU) on November 27 at 7:30 pm.

Celebrated musician Faddis was mentored by renowned jazz pioneer Dizzy Gillespie, who he played with for decades. Closely mirroring Gillespie’s virtuoso style early in his career, Faddis later served as musical director for several tribute bands devoted to his mentor, including the acclaimed Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Stars.

For this concert, Faddis shares his Dizzy charts with CapU Jazz ensembles in a thrilling program of music for both jazz orchestra and smaller ensembles.

Faddis played with Lionel Hampton and Charles Mingus in his early career before becoming a noted studio musician in New York. His distinct trumpet appears on hundreds of artists’ records, from James Brown to Paul Simon. His solo career has yielded numerous stellar albums, including the Grammy-nominated Remembrances.

Tickets are available at CapU Centre.
