Rum Ragged shares the music of Newfoundland at BlueShore at CapU, April 19
Traditions of Scotland and Ireland also pervade the quartet’s high-energy music
Rum Ragged
Known for striking vocal harmonies, staggering musicianship, and captivating storytelling, Newfoundland band Rum Ragged turns the BlueShore at CapU theatre into an East Coast–style kitchen party on April 19. Audience members can expect plenty of singing and clapping along to the quartet’s uplifting jigs, lilting ballads, and happy-go-lucky folk tales.
Much of the band’s material features old local songs learned through word of mouth, at house parties, or from local archives. By pairing Newfoundland culture with Scottish and Irish traditions, Rum Ragged makes music that stands comparison with the best Celtic tunes. The band’s latest album, 2024’s Gone Jiggin’, earned two Canadian Folk Music Award nominations, while 2020’s The Thing About Fish garnered a Juno Award nomination.
Rum Ragged features the founding duo of vocalist-guitarist Mark Manning and multi-instrumentalist Aaron Collins. The current lineup is completed by fiddler and stepdancer Colin Grant and tenor banjo player Zack Nash.
Tickets are available through BlueShore at CapU.
