Frida Kahlo: The Immersive Biography exhibition set to open May 3 at PNE Agrodome
Tickets go on sale April 4 for Western Canadian premiere of multimedia look at Mexican artist’s life
UPDATE: THIS SHOW HAS BEEN CANCELLED.
A 360-DEGREE immersive art experience based on the works of Frida Kahlo is set to come to Vancouver next month.
Frida Kahlo: The Immersive Biography is set to open May 3, 2023 at the PNE Agrodome in Vancouver. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, April 4, at 10 am through TicketLeader.ca and fridakahlovancouver.com. It’s put on by The Frida Kahlo Corporation, Layers of Reality, and Tandem Expositions.
Unusual amid the wave of high-tech immersive art shows that have come to town, the Kahlo experience follows the late Mexican icon’s biographical story. It doesn’t include reproductions of Kahlo's paintings, instead employing historical photographs, original films, digital environments, installations, collector's items, and newly created music.
It’s presented over seven distinct spaces, including a Día de los Muertos altar, a section centred on the streetcar accident that altered her life, an interactive room based on one where Kahlo would teach art classes to kids and teens, and an optional VR experience.
The show toured Spain and then Europe, coming to the US last year and making its Canadian debut in Montreal before arriving in Vancouver.
