THE INTIMATE, SOULFUL harmonies of Victoria’s Ocie Elliott promise to bring a beautifully relaxed vibe to the free Whistler Concert Series on August 23.
The outdoor stage with its stunning mountain backdrop will be perfect for Jon Middleton and Sierra Lundy, who weave the beauty of West Coast nature into almost every one of their songs—him playing acoustic guitar, and both sharing singing on their distinctly B.C. folk songs.
Their name? Middleton found “Ocie” by searching a 1920s name generator (prompted by his partner’s obsession with the era), then the two added “Elliott” because of their love for the late Elliott Smith.
The pair, who famously met on Salt Spring Island, first saw their gorgeously understated “Run to You” back a big moment on a 2019 episode of Grey's Anatomy. They later made a name going viral during the pandemic, posting videos of performing their songs from the front seat of their humble 2001 Honda CRV—always at a scenic spot, such as Victoria’s rugged granite Clover Point.
Their latest EP, Know the Night, explores the light and dark inside all of us. Set to breezy guitar, the single “Free” captures a certain summer feeling of relaxed bliss.
In all, the beloved folk duo has racked up more than 500 million combined streams since its beginnings in 2017, but still holds true to the stripped-down, pure power of their gentle melodies—offering a chill, soothing way to say goodbye to the final weeks of summer in a magical setting. ![]()
