Capilano University’s African Drum & Dance Ensemble performs traditional African music and new works.

After last year’s sold-out smash show, Celebrate Africa! returns for another evening of fabulous music and dance at the BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts at Capilano University, on January 30 at 7:30 pm.

Leading the musical brigade is Capilano University faculty member Kofi Gbolonyo, a revered performer and expert in West African traditional music and dance. The show will also include CapU’s own African Drum & Dance Ensemble, C Band, and Percussion Ensemble. A variety of incredible guests will take the stage as well, including soul vocalist Dawn Pemberton, Khari McClelland of the local gospel trio The Soujourners, pan-African drummer Albert St. Albert Smith, and more.

Celebrating the passion of African rhythm, dance, and culture, the show will feature arrangements of traditional music and dance from various African regions, plus new works and intercultural collaborations. Audience participation is encouraged.
