Maryna Krut brings the sounds of Ukraine to CapU Centre, October 22
Virtuoso makes her country’s national instrument, the bandura, sound modern

Maryna Krut
Ukrainian musician Maryna Krut, a master of the bandura, returns to CapU Centre (formerly BlueShore at CapU) for a solo performance on October 22 at 7:30 pm.
The bandura is a string instrument with elements of both lute and harp, and is considered the national instrument of Ukraine. For Krut, who is also a singer and composer, music is more than a creative pursuit. Whether she’s playing at international concert halls or performing for soldiers on the front line in eastern Ukraine, she embodies her nation’s fierce struggle for independence.
While accompanying herself on an instrument deeply rooted in her region’s folklore, Krut remains committed to the present, giving traditional Ukrainian songs a modern sound. She gained the world’s attention when she was on her country’s version of The X Factor, The Voice, and as a finalist on international hit Eurovision.
