The Vancouver Cantata Singers is launching its 2026-27 season, Music for the Masses, with the joyful concert Beatitude. Marking the start of Paula Kremer’s 14th and final year as artistic director, this performance takes place at Christ Church Cathedral on October 24 at 7:30 pm.

Beatitude can be described as supreme blessedness, extreme happiness, or a state of holy joy. This special evening consists of chosen movements from the choir’s favourite mass settings, interspersed with works that reflect, comment, and illuminate the journey of the Kyrie to the Agnus Dei.

The program includes music by Palestrina, Byrd, Rautavaara, Rheinberger, Martin, Carrillo, Bruckner, Mendelssohn. It also features Slava by Ukrainian composer Lesia Dychko, The Beatitudes by Welsh composer Paul Mealor, and the premiere of a new composition by Cree-Dene artist Sherryl Sewepagaham that was written for the Vancouver Cantata Singers.
