Wen Wei Dance’s Last Solo debuts at The Dance Centre, October 23

Choreographer-performer Wen Wei Wang collaborates with sound artist Gary James Joynes to explore memory and mortality

The Dance Centre is hosting the world premiere of Wen Wei Dance’s Last Solo on October 23 and 24 at 8 pm.

Wen Wei Wang began dancing in China, where the expressive language of the hands, arms, and upper body shaped his artistic voice. As he grew older, he came to understand that his sexuality was different, a realization that deeply influenced his life and creative journey. Now, returning to the stage as a senior artist, he reflects on memory, mortality, and the connection between body, mind, and universe.

Through this final solo work, choreographer-performer Wang invites audiences to contemplate aging, transformation, vulnerability, and resilience. The work is created in collaboration with visual and sound artist Gary James Joynes, who works at the intersection of analog and digital media.

Last Solo is presented through The Dance Centre’s Artist-in-Residence program. A post-show artist talkback takes place on October 24.
