Dance Victoria celebrates 30 years of world-class artistry with a bold new season

Dance Victoria celebrates a landmark 30th anniversary with a lineup of powerhouse dance companies from Greece, Germany, New York, and Vancouver. The 2026–27 season is a bold reflection of the energy and artistic innovation that have made Victoria a destination for international dance—just a scenic ferry ride or flight away for Vancouver audiences.
The Dance at the Royal Series begins with My Fierce Ignorant Step, choreographed by Greece’s Christos Papadopoulos, on November 6 and 7. As artistic director of The Lion and the Wolf, Papadopoulos recently won the prestigious Sadler’s Wells Rose International Dance Prize. In his company’s Canadian debut, My Fierce Ignorant Step features 10 dancers building an ecstatic soundscape of voice and movement, inspired by Papadopoulos’s childhood in Greece.

The ever-influential and enduring Martha Graham Dance Company, based in New York, brings GRAHAM100 to the stage on January 29 and 30, 2027. This 100th anniversary program honours the legacy of revolutionary American choreographer Martha Graham by setting her iconic works Errand into the Maze, Lamentation, and Diversion of Angels alongside bold new creations by Hofesh Shechter and Baye & Asa.
Vancouver’s own Kidd Pivot performs Assembly Hall on March 12 and 13, 2027. Led by acclaimed Canadian choreographer and artistic director Crystal Pite, Kidd Pivot is renowned for its sharp-witted fusion of dance and theatre. Assembly Hall, co-created with Jonathon Young, begins as a mock-medieval tournament AGM, spiralling into strangeness as ancient forces blur reality and reenactment.

On April 23 and 24, 2027, Germany’s Gauthier Dance//Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart stages FireWorks. In celebration of Theaterhaus Stuttgart’s 40th anniversary, artistic director Eric Gauthier invited 12 of the world’s top choreographers—including Hofesh Shechter, Sofia Nappi, and Johan Inger—to create a vibrant collection of works inspired by the theatre’s illustrious jazz tradition.
The season also features a special presentation of RHINO by Vancouver’s Out Innerspace Dance Theatre on October 24. For one night only, the acclaimed company, led by co-artistic directors Tiffany Tregarthen and David Raymond, brings the tragicomic RHINO to the McPherson Playhouse.
