DanceHouse presents Compagnie Catherine Gaudet's ODE, October 23 and 24

Quebec-based company delivers a haunting, hypnotic exploration of the personal costs of performative positivity

DanceHouse opens its 2026–27 season with Compagnie Catherine Gaudet’s latest contemporary dance work, ODE, at the Vancouver Playhouse on October 23 and 24 at 8 pm.

Choreographed by the Quebec-based company’s artistic director, Catherine Gaudet, this hour-long work is part pop-rock concert, part ritualistic ceremony. ODE channels the industrial happiness complex into a stripped-down exhortation on group-think conformity and cultural collapse, ultimately revealing a fragile blade of hope for a new path forward.

Gaudet is the 2022 winner of the Grand Prix de la danse de Montréal. She has established a reputation as a choreographer with a strong, distinctive style, drawing on themes of psyche, identity, and the body. Her piece Les jolies chose (The Pretty Things) was presented by DanceHouse in 2024.

ODE will feature a pre-show talk at 7:15 pm each evening and a post-show reception in the Salon on October 23.
