Vancouver International Flamenco Festival presents Flamenco Rosario & Guest Artists on September 27 at the Vancouver Playhouse
ARTISTS FROM VANCOUVER, Montreal, Spain, and Mexico are gathering forces for an evening to celebrate 35 years of Flamenco Rosario.
As part of the Vancouver International Flamenco Festival—the event the local flamenco hub founded—the show features Barcelona-born singer José “El Cachito” Díaz and magnetic Sevillian dancer-choreographer Macarena López. The bailaora has danced for the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía and influential flamenco artists like Arcángel and Estévez/Paños.
Musicians include Montreal guitarist Caroline Planté and percussionist Davide Sanpaolo. Mexican guest dancer Pilar Fernández is also on hand, alongside Rosario dancers Yurie Kaneko, Katia Flores, and Jessica Oryall.
Together they’ll perform a fiery mix of ensembles and solos in both traditional and contemporary styles, drawing on the kind of work the company founded by Mexican-born dancer Rosario Ancer and the late guitarist Victor Kolstee has explored for three-and-a-half decades.
More than anything, the evening celebrates the way Flamenco Rosario has brought together the international and West Coast to push the Iberian art form forward while honouring its past. ![]()
